The proposed 2012 proposed Federal government budget addresses reductions that help to reduce the $1.1 trillion over 10 years.  As a result, competition for the spending will increase.  Government contracting companies will need to be in the right space otherwise, they could face a reduction in revenue or a possiblity of going out of business.

In order to compete aggressively, business development activities will need to make sure that each and every decision is efficient and effective.  In order to do so, more upfront research will be required which will include understanding the customer demands along with the company's core capabilities.

The times of money falling into contractors' laps is, obviously, over.  The government has been spending more money than they have and now is in need of making a course correction.  Companies which can best translate needs into a reality will succeed through the upcoming lean times.
